Bob Bauman

Biography

Bauman, who’s on the short list of the best high-school soccer head coaches in Florida history, led Jesuit High School to five boys’ soccer state titles in 26 seasons.

The 2001 Jesuit team was a mythical national champion and finished first in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. It was one of Bauman’s five state-championship teams, which all occurred during a dominating seven-year span (state titles in 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001).

“Our players became very respectful of the tradition established at Jesuit and the players that came before them,’’ Bauman said. “Success breeds success. Winning breeds winning.’’

Bauman’s run included 24 district championships and 15 appearances in the state semifinals (the Tigers were state runners-up in 1988, 1996 and 2000).

“Bob was incredibly successful for decades,’’ Jesuit athletic director Terry Rupp said. “He has been a wonderful mentor to hundreds of Jesuit students.’’

Bauman, named 2006 National Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, was 571-124-69 at Jesuit. Six of his Jesuit players earned the Jose A. Alvarez Award, which is given annually to Hillsborough County’s most outstanding soccer player.

Bauman resigned in 2013 to pursue a judicial position for Hillsborough Circuit Court, Group 34, to which he was elected in 2014. He later returned as boys soccer coach at Cristo Rey, a Catholic school in Tampa. In 2020, Bauman was inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) Hall of Fame.
