TAMPA, FL (May 7, 2024) – The Tampa Bay Soccer Hall of Fame hosted a memorable luncheon on May 7th at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City to honor the legendary Francisco Marcos, who was recently inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The event celebrated Marcos’ groundbreaking contributions to American soccer and his profound impact on the sport’s growth and development in the United States.
Born in Portugal, Francisco Marcos immigrated to the U.S. and quickly became a transformative figure in the soccer landscape. In 1986, he founded the United Soccer Leagues, establishing a platform that nurtured professional soccer talent and strengthened the sport’s foundation in the U.S. Marcos’ leadership extended far beyond the USL, as he championed initiatives to expand soccer’s reach and inspire a new generation of players and fans.
Attended by soccer enthusiasts, local dignitaries, and former players, the event featured heartfelt speeches, video tributes, and personal anecdotes from those who worked alongside Marcos during his dynamic career. Speakers highlighted his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing soccer, particularly in underserved communities.
